Were our lives more ‘authentic’ or ‘natural’ before technology?

I love this cartoon. This perfectly sums up the ‘infinite regression’ of the idea that our lives were more ‘natural’ or ‘authentic’ before a certain wave of technology came along:

  1. I feel like this all the time, which is why I occasionally do an “internet detox” or stay off social media for a day. It seems overwhelming at times, of course what with information overload. But of course, to put it simply, technology is everywhere and I love to go for a walk in the park every now and then and get away from it all.

One day we will be so used to it, but I’m sure there are others in the class who feel so ~fake~ playing sudoku on their phones instead of doing pen and paper puzzles… and feeling so ~wrong~ holding that Wii remote just isn’t the same as being on court and hitting a real ball and feeling the force and the friction of your shoes on the court and actually seeing that ball physically go over the net…
